I love it when I just stumble upon a fellow beach bum from the other side of the planet that proves the maxim, “it’s better to give than receive”.

Especially when the giver is really generous.

I’m talking about a blogger from downunder, Yaro Starak.

His site, Entrepreneur’s Journey, is a goldmine of tips and tricks to help you grow your blog traffic.

I use the word “tricks” in the artistic sense, (not the cheap gimmicks that exploit some search engine blindspot, that close as quickly as they are discovered), but cool things that really work.

His article, “The Top 8 Search Engine Optimization Techniques” is for printing out and studying, it’s that good. It’s a concise 8 steps of Brad Fallon’s Stomping the Internet course, which I had the pleasure of listening to in the Stomper Simple course they offered.

Just by accident (or maybe Providence had a hand in it) I came across Performancing WordPress Themes.

I’m always on the lookout for ultra-high quality WordPress themes for my blogs and I stumbled on real gems here.

These designers are bloggers and know we want useful WordPress themes, but that they also need to be unique so we stand out in the crowd.

We also want a theme to be customizable (is that really a word?)…easily. Well folks, these themes fit the bill.

My favorite is the Modernpaper theme. I also like the Photopress single column theme for wide photos, but I agree with a poster that putting a second column it would make it awesome.

I found a new site using the Modernpaper theme and I consider him to be a new FortuneSeeker Friend. The site is SmallFishBigMoney.com. Check it out. You can see how he’s customized it. A very clean layout and good content too.

I’m sure, by now, you’ve heard of the list building wonder boy, Tellman Knudsen. 

From the day I got on his list, this kid has annoyed me to no end with his constant barrage of “Buy this today” crap. I mean the first couple of days I had 8-10 emails from him trying to upsell anything and everything.

Lately, it’s been as many as three a day. They’re totally impersonal opt-in spam that have given me the impression he’s trying to stuff his pockets with my money. It’s really pissing me off.

He suffers from the delusion of a “throw anything at the list, someone will buy” mentality. I mean, he’s right, that someone will buy, but he’s deluded himself to think this is a long term business strategy. But who am I?

Today, he sends me this email touting,

“Turnkey money machine prints 24/7 profits for you…automatically!”

It was for an almost year old Ewen Chia product, AutoPilot Profits. Nothing against Ewen, but this product has been dubbed “an overly hyped, nothing new, rehashed version” of everything Ewen has produced (and that’s quite a bit).

 That was the last straw.

I joined his list building club, List Crusade, to get a handle on building a large subscriber list. I endured the email because there were things I learned from the video tutorials he has. 

Some people think he’s someone to learn from, an “up and comer” (courtesy of the Warrior Forum.) Huh?

I figure there’s enough impersonal autoresponder pick pocket opt-in spammers already, why would I want to learn that? For money? It says alot about our society when the pickpocket scam artists are lauded for their ability to con people out of their money.

The incessant *Buy This* has taken its toll, I’m done and recommend you steer clear of the list building boy wonder, he wants your money and that’s all.

I was reminded this morning of the Yogi Berra quote:

If you don’t know where you’re going, you’ll end up somewhere else”

I love that guy.

I’m sorry to say that for too long that was exactly my situation, and even now, I’m sometimes surprised to find myself ending up somewhere else, usually because I’ve lost my focus.

We all set goals even if we think we don’t, if you have a home business, your goal is likely to earn a profit or spend more time at home, you see. Most of us don’t act on the goals we have. But a goal without a measurable outcome is just a fantasy. Reaching your goals requires a plan to get there, one that makes sense.

Setting business goals is fine, but let’s be honest, the real thrill and what we get excited about is ACHIEVING the goal. The ones who consistently reach their goals will follow specific guidelines to realizing their dreams.

The FortuneSeeker Six:
Six necessary elements for setting and achieving your goals.

1. They must be attainable.

As much as I believe that we can achieve anything, reality plays a real part in the process. Too often, we’ll set unrealistic goals and then are disappointed that when they don’t come to pass. It would be unrealistic to set a goal of losing 50 lbs. before this weekend’s company picnic, short of losing a major limb. But to say you want to lose 7 lbs a week is completely doable.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying to make your goals comfortable. They should always be bigger than you think you can attain, to inspire you to take action.

2. They must be specific
In order to reach your goal, your mind needs to know exactly what you want to accomplish. Be specific. If you want to earn money from your home business, don’t be vague. Be careful to be specific, for example, “I am earning $5,000/month”

3.They must be meaningful.
An achievable goal is one that you absolutely must have. It will be the thing that gets you up in the morning raring to go and make it hard to go to bed at night. It will change your life. Face it, if it isn’t and you don’t care about it, you’re going to quit at the first roadblock, if you ever get started in the first place.

4. They must be tangible.

Your goals need to be something your mind can wrap itself around. Simply saying, “I want to be rich” isn’t the same as saying “I’m making six figures a month”. See the difference? Make it something definite that you get excited about. Feel it.

5.They must be written down.

It’s a proven fact that writing down your goals increases your likelihood of success. Be certain to write them in the present tense as if already achieved. The act of writing your goals will enable you to visualize your goals in detail and help your subconscious mind work out the details.

Doing this every morning will reinforce the effect and you will gain an edge, with less than 5% of goal setters doing this, if you make this your habit. Your desire will increase and your focus sharpen by the repetition of re-reading and concentrating on your goals.

6. They need to be consistently acted upon.

Every action, no matter how insignificant, will move you closer to achieving your goal. Do not underestimate the power of this. Be tenacious, your goal isn’t going to just happen, there will be all kinds of roadblocks. Don’t give up and your desire will be yours.

Some years ago, researching church history, I was reading about the Wesley brothers, Charles and John, from Methodist fame. I don’t want to get into a theology discussion here, but early in their ministry, they befriended a man named William Law.

I only bring this up because, in one of their meetings, Wesley lamented of his inability to live a holy life. And Law, matter of factly replied, “It is because you never fully intended to.”

That exchange had a profound effect on me as I applied it to my own life. I saw time and again, how when I failed at something, I could always get to the place where I saw that, “I never fully intended to accomplish it.”

I recently re-read James Allen’s, As A Man Thinketh and was taken by the parallel’s to that quote and it renewed a drive in me that I thought was lost.

This “little volume” was written back in 1902 and is the foundation for many of the “self-help guru” programs out there today. The more I thought on it, the more convinced I was that I needed to make this available to as many as would read it for no charge and allow them to give it away also.
